Call for volunteers: CLEBC Board of Directors

CBABC is seeking nominees from Cariboo, Nanaimo, Vancouver, and Yale Counties to appoint to the Board of Directors of the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia for terms beginning September 1, 2024 and ending August 31, 2027. CBABC members who wish to be considered should submit their letter of interest and resume to the attention of Kerry L. Simmons KC, Chief Executive Officer, at ea@cbabc.org by 5pm on May 7, 2024.

CLEBC presents courses and publishes materials to meet the unique educational requirements and practice needs of the legal profession of British Columbia. The mission of CLEBC is to inspire lifelong learning, to advance the legal knowledge and skills, and to strengthen the BC legal community.

The Board meets five times a year on Fridays from noon to 4:30 pm. Remote video access is available for Board meetings. There is a one-day Board retreat in September/October. Committees meet as required. Most committees meet for approximately one hour, five times per year, often by conference call.

CLEBC seeks the following skills within its Board as a whole:

  • expertise in a variety of practice areas, including both barristers and solicitors;
  • administrative expertise;
  • financial expertise;
  • knowledge or experience in publishing; and
  • experience or interest in technology in legal education.

CLEBC values diversity, and encourages appointments from diverse backgrounds, including those who:

  • Are from a racialized/visible minority
  • Identify as 2SLGBTQAI+
  • Are sole practitioners, in house, or with a law firm with over 50 lawyers
  • Identify as First Nations/Inuit/Metis
  • Have 10 or fewer years of call
  • Are persons with disabilities
  • Have experience in these areas of law: employment, publishing/copyright, privacy, or with finance/accounting
