Letter to Ministry of Citizen’s Services – Endorsement of Rise Report on Safety in BC Courts

  • June 27, 2023

On June 23, CBABC delivered a letter to the Ministry of Citizens’ Services to endorse the Creating Safety in BC Courts Report, published by Rise Women’s Legal Centre. The report recommends modifying courthouses and court processes to advance the safety and protection of survivors of violence.

CBABC voiced support for the implementation of the recommendations to help strengthen British Columbians’ confidence in the court and create safe spaces for members of the public to participate in the judicial process. We advised that further attention to the report’s recommendations would help improve access to justice not only for survivors of violence, but for all British Columbians.

CBABC has long advocated for court modernization, as seen in our Agenda for Justice 2021 and our recent submissions to the BC Supreme Court recommending virtual Chambers for short matters and to the Ministry of Attorney General on the collection of court user data
