Law Week 2014 | Access to Justice: What does it mean to YOU?

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - April 7, 2014) - The Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch, is proud to announce that Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson has proclaimed April 6-12, 2014 Law Week in Vancouver. Law Week is a national celebration of the signing of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms and an opportunity to learn more about the justice system; what the legal community does; and what legal resources are available.

Law Week 2014 includes events across Canada throughout the month of April. Activities in Vancouver include: April 5.

  • Barry Sullivan Law Cup public speaking contest for Law 11 and 12 students, Tuesday, April 8
  • Free public law classes on a variety of topics including Wills and Estates, Landlord and Tenant, Consumer Law/Scams to Avoid, Family Law, Employment Law, Immigration Law, and General Mediation (various dates and locations April 7-10)
  • Free tours of the Vancouver Courthouse (Thursday, April 10)

On Saturday, April 12 the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch will hold its province-wide "Dial-A-Lawyer" day from 10 am - 2 pm. Residents in British Columbia are invited to call toll-free at 1.800.663.1919 to speak with a lawyer for up to 15 minutes at no cost in seven different areas of law (Family, Wills/Estates and Trust, Tort and Motor Vehicle Accident, Immigration, Business, Criminal, Employment).
