British Columbians provide feedback on changes to family court

  • November 05, 2019

From the Province of BC

B.C.’s family court system is proposing a major transformation and British Columbians are encouraged to have their voices heard as part of the process.

A public consultation has begun, with the goal of making the family court system less adversarial and easier to navigate for British Columbians. The proposed changes are expected to:

  • connect the court process with out of court services such as assessment, education and dispute resolution;
  • encourage ways to achieve more timely decisions on family court matters;
  • simplify the court process to make it easier to understand and navigate; and
  • explore technology and processes that will help to streamline the court process.

The public is invited to comment on a discussion paper, draft rules and draft forms developed by a working group that includes the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society, judges, the Province and a representative from a community-based organization.

British Columbians can provide input through the website.
