Meeting Title/Topic: The Trinity Western University Appeals: Appellate Advocacy Lessons from the SCC Hearing
Synopsis: The Supreme Court of Canada will be hearing the appeals in Law Society of British Columbia v. Trinity Western University (Case No. 37318) and Trinity Western University v. Law Society of Upper Canada (Case No. 37209) on November 30 and December 1. Many of the counsel in these appeals are from the West Coast. A panel of them was invited to join the Appellate Advocacy Section fresh upon their return to Vancouver and discuss their reflections on the hearing and its implications for appellate advocacy. The speakers offered first-hand accounts from these appeals of intense public and legal significance.
