The new Family Law Act will come into effect March 18, 2013.
Hearing Fees Suspended
Pending a BC Court of Appeal decision in Vilardell v Dunham, the Court Services Branch has advised that it has suspended the processing of payments and issuance of invoices for hearing fees for Supreme Court civil jury and non-jury trials.

The Canadian Bar Association BC Branch (CBABC) recognizes today’s announcement by Attorney General Michael de Jong, QC and Supreme Court Chief Justice Donald Brenner of new civil and family justice reforms as the result of extensive consultation.
New Rules Amendments
Civil and Family Rules changes will be effective April 25. Masters, as well as judges, will be permitted to hear Trial Management Conferences in both civil and family cases; and certain Civil and Family Forms will be amended.
