2011 Law Week Barry Sullivan Law Cup

One of the cornerstone events held in British Columbia during Law Week is the annual Barry Sullivan Law Cup public speaking contest. The competition is sponsored by the British Columbia Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and is open to students enrolled in grades 11-12 in British Columbia. The Law Cup is named in memory of Barry Sullivan in recognition of his contributions to both the legal and educational professions. The Law Cup is presented to the provincial winner of the competition.

The 2011 competition was held from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 14, 2011 in the Heritage Courtroom at the Vancouver Art Gallery, 750 Hornby Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. Students presented five minute speeches that pertained to the 2011 theme "Access to Justice: Can justice be achieved outside the courtroom?".

Winner: Barry Sullivan Law Cup and $1500
Dejana Primorac - Johnston Heights Secondary

First Runner Up: Plaque - $250
Charlotte Rogers - Johnston Heights Secondary

Second Runner Up: Plaque - $150
Kira Riehm - Little Flower Academy

The finalists were judged by The Honourable Associate Chief Justice Anne MacKenzie of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, UBC Law Professor Elizabeth Edinger and Vancouver Sun columnist Peter McKight.
