Comments and Observations of the Chair
We hosted a very diverse series of meetings this year on a variety of topics that affect real estate lawyers. Not only did we cover changes to the law (i.e. the presentations on the new additional PTT and vacancy tax and on the BCSC case Mao v. Liu), but also changes to how real estate lawyers practice in British Columbia (i.e. the presentation on Project Ace).
We also hosted the first social event during my tenure as a section executive, hosting section members and their families at a Vancouver Canadians baseball game. All of the ticket proceeds are being donated to Landesa, a non-profit organization that promotes land rights in the developing world.
I look forward to working with current and new section executives to plan an interesting schedule of meetings and events in the year to come.
