POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Consultant is responsible for developing an EDI Strategic Goals and Action Plan for the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch with related program and policy recommendations for a three-year implementation period.
The CBA’s mission includes promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and justice system. CBABC’s EDI Strategic Goals and Action Plan will set the direction for initiatives that will change the current landscape for lawyers and articling students in B.C.
This part-time contract position is expected to deliver the EDI Strategic Goals and Action Plan by June 15, 2025.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research and review existing legal profession research and programming from legal industry organizations and complete a needs and gaps assessment.
- Research and review CBABC’s existing programs and policies from the lens of equity, diversity and inclusion related goals.
- Engage with the CBABC Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Sexual and Gender Diversity Alliance, Aboriginal Lawyers Forum, Women Lawyers Forum, Senior Lawyers Section, Young Lawyers Section, and other volunteer groups within CBABC, to gather information.
- Develop a draft EDI Strategic Goals and Action Plan to guide CBABC programming and advocacy within its mandate and which can be delivered through a partnership of volunteers and staff.
- Identify and recommend resources to implement the Action Plan.
- Identify and recommend key metrics to evaluate program effectiveness.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Four-year college or university degree or equivalent.
- Sound knowledge of the principles and practical implementation of equity, diversity and inclusion within professions.
- Five or more years of experience assisting organizations develop and implement strategies to improve EDI.
- Experience in a non-profit organization or a membership association is an asset.
- Track record of building effective partnerships, influencing internal and external stakeholders, and driving change.
- Energetic leadership style, impeccable judgment, and exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Excellent presentation and communications skills (both written and verbal).
- A self-starter with superior organization and time management skills.
CONTRACT RANGE: $16,000 - 20,000 plus GST.
