On August 3, CBABC delivered a letter to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, urging action to address the lack of judges in BC, which is reaching a crisis point.
We called for the prompt:
- Appointment of justices to fill the vacancies on the BC Supreme Court, as our members continue to express deep concern about the lack of available court dates for trials and other court hearings across the province; and
- Re-establishment of the Judicial Advisory Committee in British Columbia so that applicant evaluations can continue.
Ongoing judicial vacancies significantly impacting access to timely and effective justice for British Columbian. It undermines the public’s confidence in the judicial process and poses serious risk to the administration of justice and to the quality of our justice system.
