Message to Members | May 20

A lot of information came to members this past week, including the Supreme Court of BC's Notices announcing the return of in-person trials on June 8, provided it is safe to do so. With more proceedings in our courts moving to virtual process with MS Teams, CBABC produced guides for Using MS Teams in Online Court Proceedings by desktop or phone to support our members. If you need help to set up your computer to use MS Teams, email and CBABC staff will call you back to help.

On May 19, we celebrated the results of CBABC advocacy with remote witnessing of estate planning documents permitted by ministerial order. Members developed a briefing note for the Supreme Court and Ministry of Attorney General about the consequences of delay in issuing probate grants and seeking changes to permit those grants to be issued.

With new advice from across Canada and internationally, we updated Returning to the Office: Considerations for Legal Workplaces which should be read in conjunction with WorkSafeBC's Protocols for Businesses, released on May 14. CBABC is now receiving requests for the second order of cloth and disposable masks. This bulk purchasing is made in partnership with other CBA branches and is an example of the power of a national organization.
