CBABC seeks candidates interested in serving on the Board of Directors of the Association des juristes d’expression française de la Colombie-Britannique (AJEFCB) for a two-year term commencing upon appointment.
AJEFCB’s mission is to promote access to justice for Francophones in British Columbia through several initiatives. Currently the focus is providing legal information in French and supporting lawyers who offer services in French. Board members are expected to actively engage in discussions at Board meetings, contribute to discussions and take on projects to help AJEFBC fulfill its work. The appointed candidate will also be responsible for reporting annually to the CBABC Board.
The AJEFCB is part of a broader network of French-speaking jurists associations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia, and is a member of the Federation of Associations of French-Speaking Common Law Jurists (FAJEFCL).
CBABC’s Board of Directors will select a representative who meets these qualifications:
- CBA member who will maintain membership throughout the appointment term
- Ideally fluently bilingual in both English and French (oral and written)
- Could or does deliver legal services in French
- Is familiar with the issues facing Francophones seeking French-language trials in BC
