The Law Day 2008 theme was Access to Justice. Law Day events provide the public with the opportunity to learn about the law, the legal profession and some of the legal institutions that form the cornerstones of our Canadian democracy. Law Week events include mock trials, essay and public speaking contests for students, free law classes, citizenship ceremonies, courthouse tours, free public forum, and a fun run in Vancouver.
Law Week is made possible through the efforts of hundreds of lawyers who donate thousands of hours of volunteer time to Law Day events across Canada.
In British Columbia, Law Week is a collaborative project organized through the partnership of the Canadian Bar Association BC Branch, the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia, Lang Michener LLP, the Law Foundation of British Columbia, the Law Society of British Columbia, the People’s Law School, and the Vancouver Bar Association.
In 2008, thousands of people attended events in British Columbia that were held in Fort St John, Kamloops, Nanaimo, New Westminster, Port Coquitlam, Vancouver and Victoria.
