One of the cornerstone events held in British Columbia during Law Week is the annual Barry Sullivan Law Cup public speaking contest. The competition is sponsored by the Canadian Bar Association British Columbia Branch and is open to students enrolled in grades 11-12 in British Columbia. The Law Cup is named in memory of Barry Sullivan in recognition of his contributions to both the legal and educational professions. The Law Cup is presented to the provincial winner of the competition. The competition was held on Thursday, April 19, 2012 in the Heritage Courtroom at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Students presented five minute speeches that pertained to the 2012 theme "Access to Justice: Does having the Charter lead to a more just society?".
