The CBABC Mentorship Program matches UVic Law students one-on-one with a mentor who is a lawyer in the Victoria area (or lives remotely) who is willing to share their experiences about the practice of law. The CBABC/UVic Mentorship Reception took place the evening of Tuesday, October 27 at the Hotel Grand Pacific.
The primary purpose of the Reception is to provide an opportunity for students to meet their mentors. The CBABC Student Liaison for UVic matched 83 mentee law students with 64 mentor lawyers for a total of 149 participants, and approximately 100 attended the reception.
The secondary purpose of the event is for the CBABC to present two scholarship awards to first-year students at UVic Law. Award criteria include student participation in activities supporting members of the profession; promotion of justice and law reform; equality; and demonstration of public and community service. Branch President, Jennifer Chow presented the:
- The CBA BC Branch Entrance Award, totaling $4,000 was presented to Sylvie Vigneux
- The Canadian Bar Insurance Association Student Achievement Award for $500 was presented to Kathryn Costain.
