CBA passes motion defining diversity at AGM

“This definition will provide almost like a GPS, what our basic co-ordinates are in terms of addressing diversity. But I personally feel there’s a lot to be done yet,” Kamaljit Lehal told Legal Feeds. Lehal moved the resolution yesterday at the AGM in Ottawa while speaking by video conference from Vancouver.

Adoption of the 2018 BC Building and Plumbing Code

The new BC Building and Plumbing Code will be effective December 10, 2018 and will apply to building permits applied for on or after that date. The BC Fire Code is anticipated to be adopted in the fall of 2018 and effective December 10, 2018. Buildings with permits in place under the previous 2012 BC Building Code will generally not be affected by the adoption of the new code.

Law Society of BC Consultation: proposed amendments to Federation of Law Societies of Canada's anti money-laundering model rules

The Law Society of BC has created a working group that has reviewed and considered the consultation paper for the purposes of providing a response. The working group would appreciate feedback from lawyers to the proposed changes, and in particular feedback on the proposed amendments that would eliminate certain exemptions to the application of the current rules.

Changes to Provincial Court Civil Jurisdiction and Procedures (Civil Resolution Tribunal)

The objectives of this Notice to the Profession and Public are: (1) to outline the changes to the Provincial Court’s civil jurisdiction and procedures effective June 1, 2017, further to the implementation of the small claims jurisdiction of the Civil Resolution Tribunal (CRT); and (2) to rescind three Small Claims Practice Directions formerly issued by the Chief Judge.
