CPD 8: Publication Bans in Criminal Proceedings – In Court Practice

This practice direction is to improve the clarity of publication bans made in criminal proceedings, and the accuracy of court records documenting them. It will also make information about the terms and the duration of bans more accessible to parties and other interested people while the proceedings are taking place in the Court, as well as later when there is a reason to consult the court record.

FAM 12: Default Method of Attendance for Child Protection Proceedings

CBABC President puts diversity and authenticity first

The Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch today announced Lee Nevens (they/them) as president for the 2024-25 term. A long-time advocate for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, Nevens is the first transgender lawyer elected as CBABC President and first non-binary Branch President in all of the Canadian Bar Association.

B.C. appoints judicial justice to Provincial Court

The Government of British Columbia has appointed a new judicial justice to the Provincial Court to ensure timely and effective access to justice. The new judicial justice appointed to the Provincial Court, effective July 16, 2024, is John Douglas Jevning, KC.
