Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC) is an award-winning national organization that works with local community partners to coordinate law student volunteer placements.
PBSC is searching for lawyers interested in volunteering their time by supervising a PBSC placement hosted by Vancouver Lower Mainland Family Support Services Society (VLMFSS).
Law student volunteers will undertake research regarding systemic employment and labour issues that impact the employees of non-profit organizations (specifically, the fact that some organizations like VLMFSS are funded annually which makes strategic long-term planning difficult).
The supervising lawyer is responsible for reviewing student work for legal accuracy prior to submission of the memo to VLMFSS. The time commitment for lawyers is flexible and manageable at 1-2 hours a month for 5 months (October 2019 to March 2020, with a break in December), or about 5 to 10 hours per year.
We are happy to provide more information to anyone who is interested. If you would like more information, please contact Kyleen Wong and/or Sophie Toor, Program Coordinators at pbsc@allard.ubc.ca.
