On Friday, September 20, anti-trans groups are expected to march across the country, including here in BC, to advocate for policies against Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary and gender diverse people, particularly vulnerable youth.
Speaking to you as the first transgender CBABC President, I genuinely and quite viscerally fear the violence, cruelty and disinformation that these protests threaten to deliver. Employers located in downtown Vancouver or any urban centre are encouraged to provide support to their 2SLGBTQIA+ colleagues, including allowing them to work from home on Friday to avoid any harm stemming from the demonstrations.
The current backlash from some corners of our society to reconciliation, equity, diversity and inclusion also threatens to shut down the incredibly positive changes we have fought so hard to achieve. As allies and members of the transgender community, CBABC offers our support and compassion while condemning actions that undermine a fully inclusive society.
