CBABC Committees
Reviews and provides input on all submissions developed by committees and Sections to government, the courts, the regulator and other entities. Builds processes to develop an advance CBABC’s collective view on law reform and policy matters.
Provides input to member services and programs including Sections, professional development, wellness, mentorship, and member recognition. Recommends related policy changes and branch award recipients to the Board.
Oversees financial performance, audit results and enterprise risk assessments and makes recommendations to the Board regarding related policies.
Makes recommendations to the Board with respect to Bylaws, Governance Policy (including Committees), Principles of Conduct, Conflict of Interest Policy, and member-initiated resolutions for the Annual General Meeting.
Identifies and encourages volunteers for election or appointment to CBABC roles, including the Board, Provincial Council, Committees and other opportunities, and to external organizations where CBABC has the privilege of making appointments.
Assists the Judicial Council of British Columbia to assess applicants for the Province Court by preparing confidential reports on each applicant.
Makes recommendations for CBABC policy and advocacy to increase access to justice, legal systems and lawyers by addressing existing gaps and barriers.
Oversees the content of BarTalk by identifying topics, recruiting authors, ensuring content follows BarTalk editorial policies and reviews all BarTalk articles prior to publication.
Makes recommendations for CBABC policy and advocacy to improve access to and provision of court services and courthouse facilities across BC by addressing existing gaps and barriers.
Strengthens public understanding and trust in the rule of law by developing practical resources and initiatives that equip lawyers to clearly and effectively communicate the principles of democracy and the rule of law to non-legal audiences.
Promotes equity, diversity and inclusion within CBABC, the profession of lawyers, and the justice system through initiatives under CBABC’s EDI Action Plan. Makes recommendations to the Board with respect to the EDI Action Plan.
Makes recommendations for CBABC policy and advocacy to improve the law, policies and practice of family law and children’s law, including child protection.
Makes recommendations for CBABC policy and advocacy to improve the law, policies and practice of Indigenous-Crown legal practice including Aboriginal Law, Criminal Law, and Child Protection Law as it impacts Indigenous Peoples.
Makes recommendations for CBABC policy and advocacy regarding the regulation of lawyers and other legal services providers, and to protect self-governance and independence of lawyers and solicitor-client privilege.
Makes recommendations for CBABC policy and advocacy to improve the law, policies, practice and regulatory systems of commercial and residential real estate.
Promotes Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples within CBABC and the profession of lawyers through CBABC’s Reconciliation Action Plan. Makes recommendations to the Board with respect to the Reconciliation Action Plan.
