Dear Justice LeBlanc:
The Aboriginal Lawyers Forum expresses our sincere congratulations to you on your appointment to the British Columbia Supreme Court. Your Indigenous friends, colleagues, and community members are celebrating your appointment and cheering you on from across British Columbia.
Lindsay, your appointment is so well deserved! You have made such an impact in our profession and are so well suited for the Bench. Your career and achievements have been an inspiration for all of us. You have inspired us with your successful litigation and solicitor’s practice and as the Chair the Law Foundation of BC. You are the first Métis women to be elected as a Bencher to the Law Society of British Columbia and your election with four other Indigenous lawyers in an unprecedented Indigenous Bencher initiative made national headlines. You subsequently became the first Indigenous woman to be elected as Vice President of the LSBC and your appointment to the Transitional Board of the Single Legal Regulator, a new legal regulator with unprecedented Indigenous inclusion celebrated by Indigenous people across the Country, are all important accomplishments.
Lindsay, we raise our hands to honour you, and to thank you for stepping forward to this prestigious position of selfless public service. Your voice is an important one to add to the Court. Thank you for stepping into this position and taking up the much-needed Indigenous space on the BC Supreme Court Bench.
Please accept this letter to express our heartfelt congratulations. All ALF members and all Indigenous lawyers and law students are walking taller today with our sense of pride that we have for your appointment.
Sincerely,
Aboriginal Lawyers Forum
