Effective January 15 Administrative Notices 10 and 16 and Practice Direction 63 have been rescinded.

This Practice Direction directs how counsel, litigants, witnesses and others are to address a judge, associate judge, registrar or district registrar in a courtroom. It also clarifies how parties and counsel can advise the Court, other parties and counsel of their pronouns and form of address.

This practice direction applies to all court registries in the Province.

Purpose: To set out the procedure for adjourning matters under the Family Law Act, S.B.C. 2011, c. 25 (FLA) or the Family Maintenance Enforcement Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 127 (FMEA) from one court date to another or to adjourn generally.

The purpose of this Notice is to describe the process for referral of an adult accused person appearing in custody from the Prince George courthouse sheriff cells or a remand centre into the Northern Virtual Bail Courtroom VR1 to a Forensic Liaison and, if requested by the Forensic Liaison, a Forensic Psychiatrist.

Purpose: The objective of this practice direction is to outline the limitations and process for designated paralegals, non-lawyer agents, and proponents in the Law Society of British Columbia’s (the “Law Society”) Innovation Sandbox (“non-lawyers”) to make a request to appear for clients in Provincial Court.

Purpose: To describe who is available to serve as an “official of the court” for the purposes of Rule 62(g.1) of the Provincial Court Family Rules, B.C. Reg. 120/2020.

The Supreme Court of British Columbia has adopted the 2018 Judicial Protocol, and this Practice Direction directs counsel and parties to comply with it in class action proceedings commenced on or after July 1, 2019.

Summary: This Practice Direction sets out the procedure to be followed by a party to a proceeding commenced under the Class Proceedings Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 50, who is seeking to schedule a certification application. It also sets out the requirements for submission of originating process and other documents to the National Class Action Database.
