Implementing WiFi in B.C. courthouses

August 14, 2025

Update

On August 14, 2025, Ministry of Attorney General Acting Assistant Melanie Neal responded to CBABC’s submission. Her detailed letter outlines the current services available and the Ministry’s next steps. Read the response.

On June 20, CBABC delivered a letter to the Ministry of Attorney General regarding digital infrastructure challenges in B.C. courthouses.

Ongoing WiFi connectivity problems in courthouses disrupt legal proceedings, delay access to documents, and increase cost and stress for lawyers and clients. Despite recent upgrades, unreliable service remains a barrier.

We call for the government to prioritize consistent, reliable and secure WiFi in court despite current funding pressures. CBABC has long advocated for court modernization and improved digital services, as seen in our Agenda for Justice 2021 and 2025.

This advocacy is led by our Court Services and Access to Justice Committees, and involved engagement with the wider CBABC membership.
