On July 8, CBABC delivered a letter to the Ministry of Attorney General and Ministry of Citizens’ Services regarding improving courthouse inclusivity and accessibility.
Despite prior commitments from B.C. government, courthouses across the province still lack accessible and inclusive features such as trans-inclusive and gender-neutral washrooms, braille signage, lactation spaces and disability accommodations. These physical barriers make participating in the justice system a challenging and often exclusionary experience for many.
We call on the government to follow through on its promises by installing gender-neutral, trans-inclusive washrooms, along with additional trauma-informed and inclusive practices across courthouse spaces.
This advocacy is led by our Sexual and Gender Diversity Alliance (SAGDA), with input from the Equity Diversity and Inclusion and Court Services Committees.
