Meeting Title/Topic: Recognizing Hatred in our Backyard
Synopsis A discussion on gender identity, gender expression, and sex-based discrimination complaints related but distinct protected grounds under the Human Rights Code of BC. barbara findlay, KC discusses the current wave of transphobia, and what remedies there are under human rights law. Glen Stratton presents on recent case developments under provincial and federal human rights law.

Meeting Title/Topic: A Discussion with The Honourable Harry LaForme
Synopsis: The Honourable Harry LaForme discusses intersectionality and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, including honouring our histories and providing perspective on the future within the legal profession. Justice LaForme is a member of the Eagle Clan of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. In 2019, he was the recipient of the CBA SAGDA Ally Award.

Meeting Title/Topic: Health Care Decisions: Mature Minors and Gender
Synopsis: Issues surrounding gender-affirming care, particularly with respect to mature-minors, have led to litigation in British Columbia and proposed legislative changes in Alberta. Here in British Columbia, a number of cases have been brought in which a parent has challenged the right of a minor to undergo gender-affirming care. Graeme Keirstead, KC, Claire Hunter, KC, and Dionne Liu, discuss recent cases in British Columbia and the legal, ethical and practical issues surrounding such treatment. This was a joint meeting with the Health Law Section.

Synopsis: A chance to celebrate in trying times. The SAGDA Executive invites you to join them in three opportunities to celebrate Pride, where you can network with peers and celebrate diversity. We celebrate Pride to recognize and honour the many people who have worked and are working tirelessly to strengthen our 2SLGBTQI+ community and to claim the rights and freedoms that we were historically denied. We also celebrate Pride to recognize that the work is not done. This year, SAGDA participated in Victoria Pride (with the Victoria Bar Association), Fraser Valley Pride and Vancouver Pride.
