National Conference Bursary

Immigration Law 2026 attendees are eligible to apply for funding to attend the National CBA Immigration Conference. A maximum of five bursaries will be awarded.

Deadline to apply is February 13.

Criteria

Purpose To provide financial assistance for early career lawyers to attend the *National CBA Immigration Conference from May 28-30, 2026 in Ottawa. 
Funds

A maximum of five bursaries, valued at $700 each, are available. Only one bursary awarded per successful applicant.

Bursaries are awarded as reimbursement to successful applicants who have paid for their registration and attended both the B.C. and National Immigration Conferences.

Eligibility

To qualify, you must:

  1. Be a CBA member
  2. Have been practicing law for less than 5 years
  3. Be enrolled in the CBABC Immigration Law Section
  4. Register for and attend the BC Legal Conference, Immigration Law 2026
  5. Register for and attend the CBA National Immigration Law Conference
  6. Submit your application by February 13, 2026.

IMPORTANT
Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria and pay for all registration fees and associated costs to attend both conferences to qualify for a bursary.

Process

Bursary applications will undergo preliminary screening for eligibility until the application deadline. After February 13, applications that pass the preliminary screening will undergo a second review and will be awarded based on the date and timestamp of when the application was received.

Preference will be given to applicants who have never received a CBABC Immigration Law Section Bursary. Successful applicants will be notified by email and phone.

Bursary funding will be distributed to each of the successful applicants after their attendance is confirmed at both conferences.

I understand that at the time of submitting this application,

  1. My bursary application will be time stamped and placed in a queue for preliminary screening.
  2. If my application does not meet all the stated eligibility criteria, my application will be rejected

I understand that if I am selected for this Bursary,

  1. I will maintain my registration and attendance for both the BC Legal Conference Immigration Law 2026 and CBA National Immigration Law Conference.
  2. If, for any reason, I cannot attend both conferences, I will promptly advise pd@cbabc.org so the bursary may be reallocated to another applicant.
  3. I will receive the bursary funds after I register for and attend both conferences. CBABC Staff will email me after the CBA National Conference to confirm further details with me.
