Dear Judge Dybwad,
The Aboriginal Lawyers Forum write to express our sincere congratulations to you on your appointment to the Provincial Court of British Columbia.
Brian, your appointment is so well deserved! We raise our hands to honour you, and also to thank you for stepping forward to this prestigious position of selfless public service.
Brian, as a hereditary Chief of the Tsetault-Gitxsan Nation, you have already borne the responsibility of protecting Indigenous legal orders with dignity. Now you can bring the benefit of your experience to the protection of the common law legal order through the Province. In accepting this appointment, you have built upon your already exemplary contributions to our society: your work at the Parents Legal Centre in Campbell River and at Legal Aid BC; your work at the Campbell River Bar Association; and your election as a Bencher together with four other Indigenous Benchers in an unprecedented Indigenous Bencher initiative that made national headlines.
We raise our hands to honour you, and to thank you for stepping forward to this prestigious position of selfless public service. Every Indigenous voice added to the Court is of benefit to society as a whole. We hope that one day soon you will be able to share your experiences with the next generations of Indigenous lawyers and future jurists at an ALF event!
Sincerely,
Aboriginal Lawyers Forum
