The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada has invited CBABC to submit names of potential candidates for appointment to the Judicial Advisory Committee for British Columbia, for a three-year term. Those who wish to be considered for this volunteer opportunity must be CBA members and must maintain CBA membership for the duration of the appointment.
Being a member of this committee requires a significant amount of time and effort to review applications to the federal courts in BC, conduct interviews of referees, and make recommendations for appointment. The commitment is 100- 150 hours per year. It is particularly important that members be prepared to respect the confidentiality of the information with which you will be entrusted. Before submitting a letter of interest, please review the Code of Ethics and the Guidelines for JAC Members.
CBABC members who wish to be considered for this opportunity should submit a letter of interest and resume to the attention of CBABC Chief Executive Officer Kerry Simmons, KC at ea@cbabc.org by Friday, April 24, 2026. The Board of Directors will subsequently nominate three candidates for consideration by the Minister of Justice.
Successful candidates will be required to submit further documents to Federal Judicial Affairs Canada including a personal information sheet, background check consent form, and voluntary self-identification form.
