CBABC is seeking members of 10+ years of call to contribute to the work of the Advisory Committee to Judicial Council. Members who wish to be considered should submit their letter of interest and qualifications to the attention of CBABC CEO Kerry L. Simmons, KC at ea@cbabc.org.
Members of this Committee assist Judicial Council by individually preparing confidential reports on applicants who apply for judicial positions with the Provincial Court. You will be assigned 2-4 reports each year (and can decline an assignment if your workload doesn’t permit it). Each report takes approximately 4-8 hours to complete. You will attend an Orientation to your role as well as have an opportunity to meet with Judicial Council.
Qualifications include:
- Sufficient time to complete reports within 2-3 weeks of assignment
- Ability to explore a candidate’s qualifications by asking designated questions of references as well as questions arising from responses
- Ability to objectively convey information in a well-written report for use by Judicial Council
- Awareness of the role of Provincial Court judicial justices and judges
To avoid conflicts, members of this Committee cannot have an application before the Judicial Council and must be off the Committee for one year before making an application to the Provincial Court.
Members must maintain CBA membership throughout the appointment term.
