Call for Volunteers: Restorative Justice Association of British Columbia Provincial Committee

CBABC seeks candidates from which it will appoint as its next representative to the Restorative Justice Association of British Columbia (RJABC) Provincial Committee. This person will succeed Allen Peabody and continue in the position until August 31, 2027.

The purpose of the Provincial Committee is to co-ordinate training, funding, accessibility, research, and community standards at a provincial level.  It was established at the direction of the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Division of the Ministry of the Public Safety and Solicitor General. RJABC convenes representatives from many stakeholders, including CBABC, BC Prosecution Services, Corrections, and BC First Nations Justice Council. The Provincial Committee holds virtual meetings once per quarter, each lasting approximately 90 minutes.

The CBABC representative to the Provincial Committee will have the following qualifications and experiences:

  • CBA member who will maintain membership throughout the term of service
  • Minimum 5 years call to the Bar in British Columbia
  • Confidence and experience in presenting legal information to non-lawyer audiences
  • Experience with restorative justice programs and services in British Columbia
  • Experience with the development of community standards and education standards, or achieving increased accessibility to education and training

The successful candidate will also join CBABC’s Restorative Justice Committee which meets 5 times a year, virtually.
