The Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch is announcing a transition that will see the Aboriginal Lawyers Forum become an independent association, marking an important new chapter in this long-standing partnership.
For the past 15 years, the Aboriginal Lawyers Forum has been a valued and integral part of CBABC, working together to support Indigenous lawyers and law students, fostering community and contributing meaningfully to the legal profession across British Columbia.
“We express heartfelt appreciation for the many contributions the Aboriginal Lawyers Forum has made within CBABC,” shared CBABC President, Patricia Blair. “Over the years, ALF has provided influential perspectives to our Board and Committees, helping shape on our advocacy positions, governance and Reconciliation Action Plan. Indigenous members of CBABC will continue to have opportunities for leadership and influence within our association.”
“CBABC has been instrumental in delivering ALF’s programming, including the holiday banquet, the annual retreat for Indigenous lawyers, the National Indigenous Peoples Day Auction and our Warrior Project, which raises funds to support Indigenous law and articling students in B.C.” said ALF Chair, Martin W. Bühler, KC. “We look forward to building on that strong foundation.”
As ALF moves forward as an independent organization, the associations are working collaboratively to ensure a well-coordinated transition.
