Nominations for the honorary designation of King’s Counsel (KC) for 2026 opened on Monday, May 25, 2026, and will be accepted until Friday, July 24, 2026.
The KC designation recognizes lawyers throughout British Columbia for exceptional merit and contributions to the legal profession.
Criteria for candidates
Candidates must:
- Belong to the B.C. bar and have been member for at least five years.
- Demonstrate professional integrity, good character and excellence in the practice of law. Such excellence could be determined by any of the following conditions:
- They have done outstanding work in the fields of legal education or legal scholarship.
- They have demonstrated exceptional qualities of leadership in the profession, including in the conduct of the affairs of the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of British Columbia and other legal organizations.
- They are acknowledged by their peers as leading counsel or exceptionally gifted practitioners.
Note: Only the first nomination form submitted will be accepted and considered valid. Individuals with open complaints at the time of consideration by the Advisory Committee or ongoing investigations with the Law Society of British Columbia (LSBC) will not be eligible for consideration.
