Join the National Board of Directors

Interested in ensuring that CBA Branches and National have the resources to provide services and programs to members? Looking to leverage your CBABC knowledge at the national level?

As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that the Canadian Bar Association's national Board reflects the diversity of the legal profession, CBABC is recommending candidates to fill a vacancy for a director who is Indigenous.

The ideal Board member:

  • Understands CBABC member services & programs, and policy & advocacy
  • Can quickly learn what member services & programs and policy & advocacy are delivered in other branches and through National
  • Can advocate for change
  • Understands and supports an approach to achieve Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and increase equity within justice and legal systems, the legal profession and CBA leadership
  • Has experience with association governance

The National Board meets six times per year, including two in-person meetings. Board members are also expected to serve on a Board committee and attend two Leadership Forums or inter-branch meetings (all virtual). The time involved is approximately 100-150 hours a year.

Join a CBABC Committee

Interested in making an impact on policy reform in B.C.? Do you want to advise on CBABC programs and services, or the branch publication BarTalk?

We are looking for Indigenous lawyers in all practice areas and representing all counties to join our committees.

Committee members are dedicated volunteers who are passionate about advancing the work of this association, the legal profession and our justice systems.

Each year, you will attend 4-6 meetings and contribute an estimated 5-30 hours to committee work. In this role, you will develop submissions, review policies or provide strategic input on member programming.
