Six Supreme Court practice directions amended to align with new application procedure

October 5, 2026

Effective October 1, 2026, Chief Justice Skolrood has amended the following practice directions to align with the new application procedure in Rule 8-1 of the Supreme Court Civil Rules and Rule 10-6 of the Supreme Court Family Rules:

FPD-20 - French Language and Bilingual Divorce Act Proceedings

PD-48 - Applications for Authorization to Video Record or Broadcast Court Proceedings

PD-56 - Notification of Publication Ban Applications

PD-61 - Applications to Commence Proceedings Anonymously

PD-73 - Virtual Chambers (Associate Judges Chambers Pilot Project)

PD-75 - Chambers Practice

The amendments to PD-61 update the process and timing for bringing an application to commence a proceeding using initials or a pseudonym. The amendments to PD-73 update the process for bringing an application in virtual chambers. The updates to FPD-20, PD-48, PD-56 and PD-75 are housekeeping in nature and do not change the processes they set out.
